New carbon sole with integrated heel counter
Speaking with our chief designer, Hutch, we’ve used the highest grade of carbon fibre in developing the new outsole – 3k twill weave fabric – which not only gives a classic and modern aesthetic to the shoe, but also allows us to conform the outsole and heel counter into a complex shape, whilst retaining a superb strength and stiffness to weight ratio.
The heel counter comes as a seamless extension to the outsole, wrapping and stabilising the foot around the heel, whilst avoiding the need to mold the heel. The carbon heel counter uses new technologies to give the right amount of controlled flex to create the necessary stability and comfort, alongside the Clarino microfiber used on the upper portion of the heel. Theresulting sleek and modern aesthetic of this new exposed carbon heel design creates one of the most stylish and comfortable performance cycling shoes available. And, at the business end of the new design, power transfer is maximised due to the out-of-the-box stability of this new heel counter design.
Heading to the upper echelons of cycling performance
The complex technologies used to create this innovative carbon outsole, mean that the shoe is assembled by hand in our own factory, with each shoe being a personal statement of cycling shoe perfection for us. This lightweight and modern cycling shoe is built on our popular Race Last, featuring a slightly narrower toe box and tighter heel than the Competition Last, andless overall volume than the Sport Last. It’s a cycling shoe designed for very high-cadence riding, with a slimmer fit for the performance-orientated cyclist.
The upper is constructed using Clarino microfiber, with strategically placed perforations ensures a lightweight, breathable cycling shoe that maintains structural integrity under load. The lateral side of the shoe is constructed from one single piece of Clarino fabric, with a 2-piece construction on the medial side, allowing us to offer a closer fit once the dual BOA® Li2 Push/Pull dial fit system is operated. The dials are strategically placed for maximum closure comfort and seamlessly integrated into the uppers. And, for those riders who prefer the ultra-adjustability and traditional look of laces, the new CX400L option comes with this stylish heritage lace-up look.
Our choice of Clarino offers cyclists the supple, form-fitting qualities of natural leather while resisting stretch and environmental wear, resulting in a consistent fit over time. The upper is engineered for long-ride comfort, supporting natural biomechanics while delivering the secure hold required for high-intensity efforts. The shoe is available in black/silver and white/black color options, and in regular and wide width fittings.
